Setting up a WordPress Blog

To do this you will need to have an email account that you can use today. If you do not have one, then you will need to set one up.

Go to http://wordpress.com

You should see this page. Click on the orange button with the words

Get Started Here” on it.

Blog Address

You need to think of a name for your Blog. It is good to keep it simple so that people can remember it and type it easily.

This needs to be all one word like neilsblackeblog or neilsblog.

Do not add

  • www.
  • .com
  • .co.uk

Do not use

  • Dots . commas , dashes – or spaces.

When you have done this, the computer will turn that word into an internet address.

If you choose the name ‘neilsblog’ you will have the web address.

Move down the page to the space for your username.

Your Username is how your name will be shown to other people looking at your blog.

You can use your real name, or make one up.

You need to write a password. A password is a word that only you will know. Think if a word and some numbers after it.

Here is an example neil1803

Before you type your password on the computer, write it down, so you don’t forget it.

You need to write the same password two times.

The more difficult it is for other people to guess what your password is the better.

Email address

Write your email address in the space.

An example of an email address is neilwinterburn@gmail.com

Create Blog

Go to the bottom of the page. You can use the wheel on the front of the mouse to do this.

Click the orange “Create Blog” button.

You are ready to create your first blog post.
